Welcome to Mare Island Technology Academy!

MIT Academy is a 6-12 charter school in Vallejo, California that specializes in technology, innovative instruction, and project-based curriculum. We are the highest performing secondary school in Vallejo due in large part to our outstanding staff, committed parents, and motivated students. We have approximately 800 students and although there are waiting lists at most grade levels, determined parents can nearly always get their students into MIT Academy either through the waiting list (which can last up to a year), or through the annual spring lottery.

Enrollment and Registration Update

Dear parents of students who have applied to attend MIT Academy for the 2012-13 school year: we are happy to report that all applicants who successfully applied by the March 12th deadline have now been accepted to MIT Academy for the 2012-13 school year. Congratulations! Student applications that were not submitted by the deadline are now on the MIT waiting list, in the order they were received. To see the waiting list, click HERE.

All students new to MIT are required to attend a mandatory orientation during the week of April 20th (see below). Congratulations on choosing MIT Academy, and we look forward to a terrific 2012-13 school year!

New Student Orientation

Dear parents of students new to MIT for the 2012-13 school year: there is a mandatory parent / child orientation in April according to the following schedule:

• W, 5/23: make-ups / late adds.

All new student orientations are from 4 – 6 in the MIT Academy multi-purpose room (cafeteria). You will be receiving additional information from MIT, but please mark your calendar now. Feel free to call 552-6482, extension 101, if you have any questions, and welcome to MIT Academy!

MIT UNIFORM INFORMATION

Parents, beginning in 2012-13 all students will be required to have an official MIT patch affixed to their white polo shirts. As other schools have moved towards a similar dress code as MIT, the patch will help promote safety and a sense of school identity among MIT students. The patch was selected based on its quality and elegant look, yet remains a simple and inexpensive addition to the MIT uniform. The patch is heat adhesive and should be ironed on above the left breast pocket (roughly where you put your hand for the pledge of allegiance). Also, note on the attached instructions the iron should not come into direct contact with the patch or the patch fibers will melt or burn.

MIT Academy's 5-Year Strategic Plan Approved!

With some minor revisions and clarifications, the MIT Board of Directors has approved the strategic plan presented to it by the Strategic Planning Committee earlier this year. The strategic plan thoughtfully combines various agencies' key goals for MIT (including WASC, CA Technology Plan, VCUSD re-authorization recommendations, etc.) and combines them into a five-year plan that reflects the MIT community's best thinking for the future of MIT. The strategic plan now includes sixteen goals in the areas of student learning, student support, facilities & technology, and community relations.

The ultimate goal of the MIT strategic plan is to focus MIT’s resources in such a way as to make MIT Academy a premier state-wide and national school of excellence. Good News from MIT Middle School!

On Wednesday, December 14th , the Vallejo City Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously to reauthorize the Mare Island Technology Academy Middle School charter. Recognizing the significant growth of the middle school over the past two years, along with strong parent and community support, the board renewed the charter for an additional five years, through the 2017-18 school year. MIT Academy extends its thanks to the VCUSD board, and its congratulations to all staff, parents, and supporters of MIT who contributed to this success.
