2016-17 Lottery Update

The MIT lottery for 2016-17 enrollment will be held Friday March 11 at 6:00 pm in the MPR. The 6th grade lottery will be at 6:05 and the 7-11th lotteries at 6:20. Applicants do NOT have to be present; results will be on the website by 7:00 pm and all admitted students will be notified by mail the week of March 14th.
Note that due to high retention rate of existing 6th-11th graders (99%), only the 6th grade lottery will be for placements; 7th – 11th grade will be for waiting list positions only.
Our 2016-17 6th-grade class will consist of 140 students. There are 68 siblings that are automatically enrolled, thereby resulting in 72 actual lottery openings. Since there were 232 applications,
subtracting the 68 siblings leaves 164 applicants for the 72 remaining openings. Once those positions are chosen, that will leave 92 students on the priority waiting list.
Note that for those students placed on the waiting list, most students who are persistent can get in within a year, although no guarantees can be made. Students who are still on the waiting list in January will be encouraged to reactivate their application so as to keep their relative status for the following year.
Students who are placed on the waiting list are encouraged to apply to Caliber Charter School, Vallejo Charter School, Loma Vista middle school, and Mare Island Health & Fitness Academy, all of which have 6-8 programs. By applying at VCUSD or Caliber, you will not lose your waiting list position at MIT.
If you have any questions, please contact our registrar Ms. Martina Munoz at extension 101.
Thank you for your interest in MIT Academy.
